I have never seen anything as bad as this and I have been around awhile.
Who the hell created this Vundo virus?
Why doesn’t law enforcement go after the companies who are using this and sneaking onto peoples machines! MalwareAlarm, and all the other POS that pop up. I have spent about 20 hours trying to remove this and I am still at it.
Who is the person behind this????
Why do these people not get caught and go to JAIL!!

I use the Ultimate Boot CD to remove vundo. It’s the only way that works 100% of the time. The vundofix doesn’t ever work.

Hi Nick,
I take it you manually go through and remove each entry when you use the Ultimate Boot CD. Most people really can’t do this because of the skill level needed. Let us know your method and we will post a page for it and give you credit as the author and a backlink in the article if you have a website.

VundoFix didnt work.. It said that there were no infected files.. But BitDefender always pops up that it blocked the Trojan.Vundo virus..

Vundofix is not the cure all. It’s a free tool that does work about 50% of the time. Have you installed Spybot and Ad-ware and ran them in safe mode? All three combined have a good shot at resolving your issue. Spyware Docotor does remove Vundo for sure but needs to be updated and ran in safe mode. Also Highjack this is great when you know how to use it correctly.

This site is right Spyware Doctor does remove vundo. I had Mcaffe and got infected even with that. It was free from my ISP. I bouth the SD and it cleared my system right up.
I agree with you Linda. I have seen many viruses and spyware programs before but never anything this bad.

hey guys
I just used “f-vmonde” found on www.f-secure.com/tools/f-vmonde.zip then used “VirtumundoBeGone.exe” found on this site and then ran a “Spyware Doctor” scan and vundo was not found so i believe i killed it…this worked for me so good luck.
(Btw it was all done in normal windows mode not safe mode)

Well i am going to try Kory’s suggestion. So, is Vundo a rootkit? If not then I have a rootkit dedicated to repopulating Vundo. Spydoctor will not install in any mode. I even created a new account on my PC to slow it down. VundoFix finds nothing and Malwarebytes removes about 15 relted keys and dll’s but cannot stop it from rebuilding on first boot. I run Norton Enterprise and ZoneAlarm pro and Spybot S&D and I am on 20+ hours of beating on this thing. I have never loaded up my pc with so many tools for one piece of malware. I had only been infected once before in years, since I can remember. This is preposterous. I have locked down so many things via ZoneAlarm and msconfig that I am beginning to choke the OS.
I do not think a registry restore, if I had one, would fool this creature. My next step if the uggetion above does not work is to create a bootup OS on a keydrive loaded with everyones crappy removal tools.

Hi Keith, many infections out there do try to block the install of Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. This is because they know it will remove it.
You can try to rename the Spyware Doctor with antivirus program to something like AA. I have found that when you limit the name to two charecters it often times will work.
Other wise do a full backup of your computer and then use combofix.exe. Just google it to find the program. This tool works wonders on systems that are heavily infected. It’s very easy to use but can cause system crash about 3% of the time. Hence doing the backup first.
My only other sugestion is to have the guys over at www.onlinecomputerrepair.org remove this threat for you. They will 100% remove all threats from your computer for only 89 bucks. It’s a solid way to go. If you already have 20 hours into this it may be time for a virus removal expert.
Let us know how your infection removal went and what ended up working for you.

Hi. Well I’m impressed by the quick reply. I am quite determined to beat this down myself. There’s 30+ years of IT experience at stake. I’ll be sure to update the final results. And will try the rename trick, though it fails to register when installing. I just ran SUPERAntiSpyware which found about 20 instances of Vundo dribble and now running again and has found one. Also notepad.exe is poisoned and regenerates when renamed or deleted. I fooled that by copying and renaming wordpad as notepad in system32. Also f-monde found nothing and VirtumondoBeGone fails to run. It’s a bit risky trying all these fixes I am not familiar with except for the reputation of where I get them.

I tried numerous “tools” and combofix- which finally killed my OS… Finally just reformatted and reinstalled XP. I had even gone in and zipped up every single exe, dll, ini that had created itself in the past 3 days. There was always one little file (a diff one everytime) that would show up on reboot.
I’m working on a friend’s comp now trying to clean that crap off. Been 3 days straight now. Still infected.

From one Keith to another, I am feeling exactly the same way, lol…I am trying to remove Vundo for a friend, and I have a similar number of years of experience as you…it’s more a matter of pride at this point for me as well…
I will beat this mf without doing a full wipe if it’s the last thing I do…

Hi Gang,
Well, here’s my story. My IT guys removed Vundo on Wednesday with a pseudo system restore (copied into it an install CD system file). Then used Spybot, then used McAfee, then ran Spybot again in safe mode. After all this we ran the VundoFix and nothing appeared. I ran fine for 2 days and then BOOM, this morning McAfee picks it up AGAIN. I just noticed that McAfee has just released an updated fix so I’m off to run that now. I’m sorely tempted to try those onlinecomputer guys - this thing is impossible to get rid of!!!!

That is why we recommend Spyware Doctor with antivirus. In about 90% of all cases it can fully remove Virtumonde and all other variants.
If it does not work for you then they have 100% free support to help you fully remove the threat.
Those onlinecomputerrepair.org guys know what they are doing. They have been dealing with Virtumonde and Vundo for years and they will 100% remove all viruses and spyware or you don’t pay a cent. that is why we recommend them out for Vundo removal
